That’s a very young rat, I think. The bald tail usually is a rat. It can’t help being born, and they are usually very frightened by humans. I had several domestic rats as pets for years in my late teens and twenties, and they are very clever and gentle pets. Very clean, too, they groom themselves constantly. Obviously untamed rats should not be handled, as they have very sharp teeth and are very quick moving, but they do deserve compassionate treatment as does every living creature. Bravo for your kind heart, Barbie.😅

A deep clean is not what this house needed. It needed total gutting, or at least a specialist team in hazard overalls. Expecting you to transform it was taking a liberty. I do realise you clean for people who have problems, and you do an amazing job every time, and I do sympathise with them, but this was beyond a normal clean-up and I admire your courage in tackling it. I very much doubt anyone has lived there for donkey's years.

If she rents this apartment, I don't understand why the landlord doesn't do yearly inspections and say something to her about this situation or kick her out. I'm surprised how it was allowed to get this bad. I guess as long as she pays the rent they don't care. I'm also assuming she doesn't have family that is checking on her but not sure.

I don't want to sound mean but her child was living in a trash dump. I can understand why the child was removed from the house and should not be returned until the mother undergos treatment for her depression and demonstrates she can keep a clean house for a long period of time. I'm sorry but the child's safety should come first in this situation. The mother should not be allowed to have an animal either because in my opinion that contributes to the unsanitary conditions since she is not able or willing to clean after the animal and take it for walks, etc. I'm surprised the landlord hasn't kicker her out.
